Systems Engineer

Job Description:

Candidate must be able to work independently and integrate, design, develop, and enhance the systems architecture while coordinating amongst various technical teams. You should have the ability to lead a large team in the design and engineering of highly complex global networks and systems. You will need to act as a high-level technical expert, addressing problems of systems integration, compatibility, and multiple platforms, as well as being responsible for ensuring project completion.  As a subject matter expert regarding all things systems related, you may perform feasibility analysis on future efforts and projects and delivering the results of your findings to key leadership including directly to our customer.

Required Skills:

  • Overseeing the design, development, integration, and production installation and operations and maintenance of systems and network components.
  • Define robust architectures for new systems, leveraging and enhancing existing building blocks or creating new reusable components.
  • Be responsive and decisive on adjusting product architecture as customer requirements, market conditions and technology evolve.
  • Provide technical leadership and input to other teams within the organization.
  • The candidate will be responsible for assisting with the creation and maintenance of a cloud hosted environment in Microsoft Azure.
  • Active participation in project team meetings will be required to provide insight concerning any configuration and timeline concerns.
  • Troubleshoot any issue that occurs within the environment and resolves the issue in a timely manner based on SLAs.
  • Responsible for the day to day maintenance of the environment which includes reviewing backup success/failure, security logs and other daily tasks.
  • Provides suggestions to improve the environment performance.
  • Provides suggestions and specifications for future hardware, software or service purchases.

Education and Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent related field experience.
  • MCSE/MCITP EA; Security+, ITIL® Foundations certification

Optional Skills:

  • 5 to 10 years serving as a system engineer/administrator supporting Microsoft Windows environments including:

a) A thorough understanding of installation, testing methodologies and troubleshooting techniques.
b) Strong organization skills, including the ability to handle multiple ongoing projects and efforts.
c) Experience securing and hardening operating systems and hardware based on Federal Government guidelines.
d) Proficiency scripting in PowerShell or equivalent.
e) Must be able to demonstrate a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in more than one of the following areas: designing and supporting Windows Server 2010/2012, MS SQL Server, MS System Center (SCCM), O365/SharePoint and MS Azure.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications, particularly with a customer focus.
  • Experience with disaster recovery involving site to site replication, RPO/RTO, snapshots.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills to quickly identify and resolve issues end to end.
  • Experience securing and hardening operating systems and hardware based on federal security standards (e.g. NIST).
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work independently on system engineering tasks
  • Excellent organizational skills with an attention to detail.
  • Being a self-starter wanting to learn and apply new skills to the Cloud build is a must.
  • Preferred 3-5 years’ experience working with cloud services such as Microsoft Azure.
  • ServiceNow and ITSM experience.
  • Prior experience in a consulting environment.
